How to Highlight the Row and Column of the Current Cell in LibreOffice Calc

Share
In this tutorial, we'll learn how to configure LibreOffice Calc to highlight the entire row and column when we select a cell, so that we can quickly see what other cells are in the same row or column. By default, LibreOffice Calc will only highlight the column header and the row header at the edges of the spreadsheet, which is often not enough when dealing with large spreadsheets. Fortunately, it's possible to change this behavior to make it easier to read the spreadsheet.

To enable row and column cell highlighting in LibreOffice Calc, follow the following steps:

1: click on Tools -> Options... on the menubar to open the preferences dialog window. It has a list-detail layout.

2: navigate to LibreOffice Calc -> View on the side pane. View-related settings will appear in the detail pane.

A dialog window titled "Options - LibreOffice Calc - View." It has a list-detail layout. On the side pane, LibreOffice Calc -> View is selected. On the main pane, the settings: Display: Formula (unchecked); Zero values (checked); Comment indicator (checked); Comment authorship (checked); Formula indicator and hint (unchecked); Value highlighting (unchecked); Column/Row highlighting (unchecked); Highlight cell in edit mode (unchecked); Anchor (checked); Show references in color (checked); Window: Column/row headers (checked); Horizontal scroll bar ( checked); Vertical scroll bar (checked); Sheet tabs (checked); Outline symbols (checked); Summary on search (checked); Zoom: Synchronize sheets (checked); Visuai aids: Grid lines ("Show"); Pointer: themed or system (system checked); Page breaks (checked); Helplines while moving (unchecked); Objects: Objects/images ("Show"); Chatrs ("Show"); Drawing objects ("Show"). Five buttons: Help, Reset, Apply, OK, Cancel.

3: under Display, check Column/Row Highlighting.

Warning: this option seems to have been added in version 25 of LibreOffice. If you can't find it, it's possible that you need to update LibreOffice in order to have access to this new feature.

4: click OK or Apply to save your preferences.
