Personally, I don't agree with the idea that a software shouldn't be used just because it hasn't been updated because most of the time you can't prove that it has been exploited in practice. The forum thread also cites RSS Guard as an alternative, but RSS Guard doesn't have the same features as Fluent Reader, so it isn't a complete alternative. FLOSS applications are often the work of lone developers, so I don't think it's realistic to dismiss them just because the last update was one year ago. Sometimes you're just busy with other things!
