What is a Pixel Art Editor?

A pixel art editor is a type of image editor specialized for pixel art, a type of digital art about editing individual pixels of an artwork.

Pixel art editors typically fall into two categories: editors for modern game development and editors that emulate the retro look and feel of the 90's and 80's when computer graphics were severely limited by resolution and color depth (number of colors).
