What is a Mass Storage Device?
A mass storage device is a physical computer part (a piece of hardware) where data can be stored permanently, i.e. it's where your files are saved. Mass storage devices include hard disk drives (HDDs), solid state drives (SSDs), and portable media like CDs and USB sticks.
The physical object where the data is stored is a mass storage medium. For example the hard disk of a HDD and flash memory of a SSD os USB stick are mass storage media. The device has a small computer in it called its microcontroller that processes data stored in the RAM memory (which is a temporary medium) and records it in its more permanent medium.
