What is a Main Pane?

The main pane is the large rectangular area in the middle of an application, between the upper group of bars (menubar, toolbar, ribbon), and lower group of bars (statusbar). The main pane includes its own scrollbars that conditionally appear when the content of the pane extends past its viewport. However, the main pane doesn't include any side pane or toolbox that appears next to in the application.
