Warning: this tutorial is for files that were "deleted" by sending them to the recycle bin. If you have "permanently" deleted a file by emptying the recycle bin, or if a buggy or malicious program deleted all your files, this tutorial can't help you, but the files may still be recoverable. If this happened to you, shut down your computer immediately and call a data recovery specialist.
Restore Method
To recover your files that were sent to the recycle bin, follow the following steps:
1: minimize all your windows or press WinKey+D to display your desktop.
2: double click on the "Recycle Bin" on your desktop.
3: find the file that you want to undelete.
Note: if you can't find the file in your recycle bin, it's possible that it has been deleted "permanently," so your only option will be to call a data recovery specialist. The recycle bin only preserves deleted files temporarily. I hope it wasn't an important file. It's a good idea to always have backup copies of your important files in case they get deleted by accident.
4: right click on the deleted file to display its context menu.
5: click on the option "Restore."
The file will be sent back to the folder where it was deleted from.
Move Method
It's also possible to recover the deleted file by moving it to outside the recycle bin. We can do this by cutting and pasting the file to a different location, or by dragging and dropping on the desktop or in some folder. See [How to Move a File on Windows 11] for a complete tutorial.
