What is an Image Viewer?
An image viewer is an application that opens and display image files.
Which image formats an image viewer support varies. Most image viewers can open PNG and JPEG. Some may struggle with animated images such as animated GIFs, or newer formats like WebP.
Some image viewers are pure, meaning they can't edit, delete, or modify the images that they open, only display them, while others are capable of basic editing tasks such as rotating the image by 90, 180, and 270 degrees, and mirroring the images horizontally or vertically.
Image viewers can typically traverse files in a folder, meaning that if you open an image, you can go to the next and previous image on the same folder by clicking a button or pressing a key.
Some image viewers are also capable of displaying information about the image they opened, such as its resolution and other image metadata like the model of the camera that took the photo.
