What is a Music Player?

A music player is a type of application that can play music in your computer. It can open files in audio formats such as MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, among others. Music players can also play sound effects and short audio clips stored in these formats.

Music players often have features like being able to rate tracks in a music album, and displaying the cover image of an album, that are missing in general-purpose media players (video players that support opening audio files).

Certain specialized formats like chiptunes (e.g. game music files from the Super Nintendo era) may require specialized music players in order to be played. MIDI is another format that can you some trouble nowadays.
