What is a Note-Taking Application?

A note-taking application is a type of application specialized for taking notes. Although you should be able to take notes using just a simple text editor, note-taking applications tend to have advanced features such as the ability to organize and hyperlink your notes, use rich text, include images in the notes, search your notes, among other features. There are also applications that just create sticky notes on your desktop that are also described as belonging to the same category.

Under the toolbar, on the left pane, a tree hiearchy: My Notes (root node) with the icon of a cherry, under it two children: Cool websites (selected) with a star icon, and Reminders with an alert icon.
