What is a Clip Drive?

Clip drive is another term for a USB flash drive. More specifically, ClipDrive (without space) seems to be a product series sold by a Japanese company called Buffalo.

A small purplish blue semi-transparent plastic electronic device with a USB plug sticking out of it. A logo that reads "Clip Drive" is printed on it.

Note about image: Buffalo's official website lists their RUF-C series products in his webpage [https://www.buffalo.jp/product/series/RUF-C] (accessed 2025-01-15), however there are no photos likely because this product hasn't been sold for over a decade. Searching for the product series name on Google I managed to find a 2002 article that did feature a similar photo, which is why I believe this is the RUF-C. It's worth noting that the RUF-C/U2 series is for the USB 2.0 and has the text USB 2.0 printed on the device, which this photo doesn't have.

In mid-January Melco is to start selling the new 512Mb ClipDrive USB (RUF-C512M) flash-memory device.

The trinket resembles most similar devices: driverless operation, USB 1.1, write protection. ClipDrive dimensions are 17x72.5x10 mm, weight — 12 g, approximate price – about $240.
