What is an ISO Image?

An ISO image (extension: .iso) is a file that contains all the data that should be stored in a mass storage media, such as a CD, DVD, Blu-ray, USB stick, HDD, or SSD. A more general term for this is a "disk image."

"To burn an ISO" means to take such ISO image file and apply it to a CD or USB stick.
